Teacher Registration English Exemption Leads to Successful Secondary Teacher Invitations – Multiple 189 and 190 Lucky Recipients
Author: | Time: 2026-06-16

In this round of skilled migration invitations, multiple secondary teacher students successfully received invitations:

One received a South Australian state nomination invitation with 65 points.

Several received 189 independent skilled migration invitations with scores of 80 and 85 points. The 80-point applicant entered the pool relatively late, updating their EOI in late April.

These students share a common background: all hold undergraduate degrees from mainland China, followed by a 2-year Master of Teaching (Secondary) completed in Australia. After graduation, they all utilised the TRBWA teacher registration English exemption pathway to bypass the traditional IELTS 7788 pressure, and on this basis, completed the AITSL Secondary Teacher skills assessment.

Based on the outcomes of this round, secondary teaching remains a very promising direction for skilled migration.

For students with a mainland Chinese undergraduate background who are considering switching to education, secondary teaching is not an impossible path. However, it is crucial not to focus solely on "which major to study," but also to plan ahead for registration, skills assessment, English exemption pathways, state nomination, and EOI points strategy.

In summary:
Mainland undergraduate background + 2-year Australian Master of Teaching (Secondary) + TRBWA teacher registration English exemption + AITSL skills assessment + 189/190 dual-track strategy = there is still a viable pathway for secondary teacher migration.

If you are unsure whether switching to secondary education suits you, or if you want to assess teaching methods, teacher registration, and the AITSL skills assessment pathway, start planning early. Secondary teaching is not a shortterm sprint; it is a longterm pathway that needs to be designed from before you even begin your studies
